Chamomile Pillow

Make yourself a chamomile pillow to tuck under your head at night to help you drift off into a peaceful sleep!

How to Make a Chamomile Pillow

You will need:

  • Muslin or thin cotton or other soft material approx 80cm x 30cm

  • Cotton and needle or sewing machine

  • Pins

  • A few handfuls of fresh chamomile flowers and leaves

Fold the material in half lengthways so that the edges meet and the right side of the material is on the inside. Pin the long edges together, 2cm in from the edge of the material. Leave the short end open as the chamomile flowers and leaves will be inserted through this end.

Stitching your Chamomile pillow

Stitch along the pin line the entire length of the 2 edges and fasten off. Remove the pins.

Turn the pillow inside out thereby exposing the right side of the material and smooth out of a surface.

Filling your Chamomile pillow

Take small amounts of the chamomile flowers and leaves and stuff the pillow until the pillow is full to the required density. Don’t overstuff the pillow with chamomile else it will be difficult to sew up the open end.

Finishing off your Chamomile pillow

Turn each edge of the open end of the chamomile pillow inside the pillow by 2 cm and pin.h

Pin the 2 edges together and remove the original set of pins from the individual edges.

Oversaw the edges of the open end of the chamomile pillow and fasten off.

Puff up your pillow and you now have an aromatic and relaxing chamomile pillow to help you sleep tonight!!

Eventually your chamomile pillow will lose its fragrance but you can rejuvenate this with a few drops of chamomile essential oil.

Using other fillings for your Chamomile pillow

There are many other fillings you can add to your chamomile pillow. Mung beans, whole wheat kernels or lentils are very good as they give a soft pillow when combined with the chamomile.

Mix the chamomile flowers and leaves with approx 3 – 4 cups of your choice of extra filling and place inside the pillow. You will need a little less fresh chamomile this time.

The pillow will of course be heavier than with just chamomile. Add chamomile essential oil drops in the same way once the chamomile pillow is beginning to lose its fragrance.

Making a Chamomile eye pillow

If you want to shield your eyes from the early morning rays streaming in through your bedroom window, make yourself a chamomile eye pillow. Use the same methods as above but make the chamomile pillow smaller, just big enough to cover your eyes comfortably.

It could be dangerous to make a larger pillow as you could restrict your breathing, so please be aware especially with children!
