Using chamomile in Skincare

Chamomile has been used in cosmetics and skincare for hundreds of years and is notorious for its relaxing and calming properties. Chamomile is rich in oils which are extracted from the leaves and flowers and have many uses.

The Egyptians were past masters at creating natural lotions and potions from all manner of herbs.

There are many chamomile cosmetic and skincare preparations that contain chamomile and are readily available in shops but you can also make them yourself!

For a chamomile skincare infusion, simply boil a cup of flowers in a liter of water. This will serve a variety of cosmetic and skincare applications.

  • Use as a steam to cleanse your face.

  • Cool the infusion and use to soften your hands.

  • Add a strong infusion to a bath, lay back, relax and enjoy the soothing and calming properties of the herb.

  • Use as a rinse to lighten and condition fair hair chamomile tea for hair

Chamomile Steam Face Cleanser

Use this wonderful chamomile ‘steam clean’ to cleanse your face as part of your weekly skin care routine. In a heat resistant bowl, place a heaped teaspoon of chamomile leaves into 4 – 5 cups of boiling water. Hold your face over the bowl for about 10 minutes to cleanse and open your pores. 

Now apply a tightening mask for 10 minutes and wash off.

Chamomile Skincare Moisturizer

If you have any of the following skin types, you can increase the benefits of your moisturizer by adding 2 drops of chamomile essential oil to 100ml of your moisturizer. Make sure you only use 2 or you may damage your skin if you make it any stronger.
